When you update drivers in Vista, sometimes you’ll find that the new driver is just not compatible with your system. During times like this, don’t panic. It’s actually easy to revert back to your older driver because Windows keep a backup of… just in case.

Just follow the instructions below and you’ll have your previous driver restored in no time.

(Note: The following steps require that you have Administrator access on the PC where you want to carry out these steps.)

  1. From the Windows Start menu, right-click Computer and then select Manage.
  2. If there’s a UAC security prompt, click Continue.
  3. Open Device Manager.
  4. Go to the category or folder that corresponds with the device whose driver you want to rollback. For example, if you updated an audio driver and want to roll it back, go to the Sound, video and game controllers category.
  5. Expand the folder and then right-click the device you want.
  6. Select Properties.

Windows Vista is by default having a setup that signifies restart option automatically after the Blue screen of Death (BSOD) or some other important trouble. You can disable this automatic restart feature in 10 minutes of procedure.

Steps to disable the Automatic Restart on the System Failure:

1. Select the Start button and then choose Control Panel.

Tip: if you are in hurry you can type the word system into the search box all after clicking on to Start button. Select the System link from the resultant list and then finally turn on to Step number 4.

2. Now select the System and Maintenance link.

Note: If you have been using the Classic View of the Control Panel, you will not be able to see this provided link. Then just double-click on to the System icon and continue with Step number 4.

3. Now select the System link.

4. On the left hand side of the pane, select the link “Advanced system settings”.

5. Find the Startup and Recovery area and choose the Settings tab.

6. The Startup and Recovery window appears, find click uncheck the check box that is present next to the Automatic restart option.

7. Then select OK button into the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

8. Now Click on to OK button in the System Properties dialog box.

9. Now just close the System dialog box and you are done with the whole process.

5. You can further add another clock in the same manner. Then click on to OK button after you have finished.

6. As a result when you will place your mouse pointer on the main clock bar the other clocks will be shown.

1. Click on the “Start” button, and select “Control Panel”.
2. In case you are using an expanded and widen Control Panel select “Power Options”.

Otherwise only click on to “Hardware and Sound”, after that select “Power Options”.

3. From the option “Power Options” dialog box, just click on “Choose when to turn off the display”.

4. Next to the option “Dim the display”, choose the pull-downs to choose if you want to dim the display when ever you are on plugged in or battery power.

5. Next to the option “Turn off the display”, choose the pull-downs in order to choose if you want to turn off the right display when you are either on plugged in option or on battery power.

6. Click on “Save changes” so that can store the settings in appropriate manner.

The Windows Vista provides accessible tools which offer the hovering feature which will save your precious time in case you are working on multiple windows at the same time.

Steps to Activate Windows by Hovering Over them:

1. Select the Start button and in the search box type “ease of access”.
2. You will see the “Ease of Access Center” link as a result and just click over it.
3. As the window of the “Ease of Access Center” appears, you need to scroll down in order to find “Explore all settings” and then select “Make the mouse easier to use”.
4. As the mouse settings popup, check mark the option “Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse”.
5. Then select the “Save” tab in order to activate the defined feature, you will have to scroll down in order to find this save button.
6. Finally close the “Ease of Access Center” dialog box and you are done!

In Windows XP, to remove programs it was done through the Add or Remove programs in the control panel. However in Windows Vista, the Add or Remove programs icon does not exist. It has been replaced with an icon called Programs and features.

How to remove software programs from Windows Vista?

  1. Go to the Windows Vista Start menu.
  2. Choose Control Panel from the menu.
  3. Find the icon named Programs and Features. Double click on it to open.
  4. Now you will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
  5. If you select the one you want to remove by making it blue a button will appear to remove the program.  
  6. Press on the uninstall button to remove the program.
