I bought a laptop that has windows vista, and it is new to me. When I look at the task manager it says there are around 66 processes, but when I count them in the task manager I count around 40. What is the deal with this?? Also it says my cpu usage is always fluctuating, but when I look at the processes it doesn’t say any of them are using the cpu. Lastly some of the processes have *32 at the end of them. If anyone has some help on this that would be great thanks!

some of the processes that are essential to run windows are probably hidden. With the fluctuating CPU and the process thing it’s probably just not updating itself fast enough. The *32 should mean it’s a 32 bit program
you are running Vista 64 and its a 32 bit process for 32*
and for the processes them self’s you need to click to see all processes
normal to fluxate
vista does a lot of disk trashing unless you tweak it not to
