Windows Vista Question – why do items we have deleted from the desktop keep returning?

We have deleted the items from the desktop and then from the trash, but every morning when we logon the deleted items have returned to the desktop again.
Also…we can’t seem to save anything to ‘my documents’ – can only save to the desktop.
We are on a network server.
Any ideas on how we can fix this?

What sort of items?
If you were not on a network server, malware or a virus would be the first thought. Check thoroughly anyhow.
